Local perspective
Local notes
Beesands feels like a working fishing hamlet rather than a tourist destination, and that is the main reason I like it. The narrow lane and limited parking keep the pace slower than the bigger South Hams beaches, although I would still arrive early on a sunny summer day rather than gamble on a space.
The shingle means you do not need to organise the whole visit around low tide, but it is harder work underfoot than sand. I would pack a little lighter if you are bringing children, and I would not choose it for an easy buggy day even though the approach from the car park is level.
Beesands works well as part of a walk or a meal by the water. Head towards Start Point if you want to stretch your legs, then come back for seafood at The Cricket Inn or Britannia at The Beach. Booking ahead in summer avoids having to find another table after the walk.

Frequently asked questions
Is Beesands dog friendly?
Dogs welcome all year with no seasonal restrictions. Check current signage on arrival.
Is it sand or shingle?
Shingle, with wave-breaker boulders in places.
Can you hire watersports equipment?
No. The nearest dedicated hire options are in Salcombe.
Is Beesands pram or buggy friendly?
You can get right beside the beach, because the car park is level and directly alongside it. The loose shingle itself is difficult underfoot and not realistic with a pram.
What facilities are available at Beesands?
Beesands has public toilets open 24 hours all year, free parking close to the shore, and a café, pub, and shop in the village. There is no lifeguard service.
Are BBQs allowed at Beesands?
Yes, but only on the council-owned section of Beesands. Use a reusable BBQ away from busy areas, fully extinguish it and check current signs and fire guidance before lighting it.
