How it started

About Beach Notes

These notes were never meant to be a website.

Beach Notes began as a private collection of the details we wanted to remember for next time.

After a day on the coast, we would jot down the practical things: where we parked, how the beach changed with the tide, whether the walk was manageable with too much stuff, and where we found something good to eat afterwards.

The notes saved us from repeating the same mistakes. They also became the answers we sent whenever friends asked which beach to choose, when to arrive or what they would find when they got there.

01

Personal

Written like advice shared with a friend, not a tourism brochure.

02

Practical

The details that help you choose a beach and plan the day.

03

Local

Focused on the Devon and Cornwall coastlines we know and keep returning to.

Why we shared them

The notes became more useful when they stopped being ours.

We realised the same small details could help anyone planning a day on this coastline. So we started turning the scribbles into proper guides and made them available to everyone.

The format is more polished now, but the idea has not changed. Each guide should tell you what matters before you set off - without pretending every beach is perfect or burying the useful answer beneath a long introduction.

Live information such as tides and water-quality classifications comes from the named official sources. The rest is still written with the same question in mind: what would we want a friend to know before going there?

We hope you find it useful ❤️
