Before you set off
Today's snapshot
Trevone is sheltered and generally gentler than the exposed bays nearby, but rips form on the eastern side in bigger surf. The natural pool at Newtrain Bay is best around low to mid tide.
Plan your visit
Getting there
There are two car parks, one in the village and a larger field opposite the beach. Both are privately run and monitored, so pay for the full time you plan to stay.
- Parking: A village car park sits beside the beach stores, with a larger field car park opposite the beach. Both are privately run and use number-plate cameras.
- Dog rules: Trevone Bay: dogs banned 15 May - 30 September, 10am - 6pm (Cornwall Council PSPO). Dogs welcome before 10am, after 6pm during this period, and all day outside these dates. Neighbouring Newtrain Bay (10-minute walk along coast path) has no restriction year-round.
- Lifeguards: RNLI lifeguards patrol daily through the summer, typically from mid May to late September.
- The Round Hole: A collapsed sea cave sits in the cliff east of the beach on the coast path. There are no barriers and the ground is unstable, so keep well back from the edge.

Local perspective
Local notes
Trevone is a small sandy cove a short drive from Padstow, but it feels removed from the town. Low tide is the most rewarding time to visit, when the rock ledges appear and there is more room on the sand.
The natural pool over the rocks at Newtrain Bay fills on the tide and can hold clear water for hours afterwards; dogs are allowed there all year. Above the beach, the Round Hole is worth the short walk, but it is an unfenced drop into a collapsed cave, so keep children and dogs close.

Frequently asked questions
Is Trevone Bay dog friendly?
Trevone Bay: dogs banned 15 May - 30 September, 10am - 6pm (Cornwall Council PSPO). Dogs welcome before 10am, after 6pm during this period, and all day outside these dates. Neighbouring Newtrain Bay (10-minute walk along coast path) has no restriction year-round.
Where is the natural rock pool at Trevone?
It sits at Newtrain Bay, over the rock ledge at the eastern end of the beach. It is best visited around low to mid tide.
What is the Round Hole at Trevone?
It is a collapsed sea cave in the cliff east of the beach, reached from the coast path. There are no barriers and the ground is unstable, so keep well back from the edge.
What's the best tide for Trevone Bay?
Low to mid tide, when the sand is at its widest and the rock ledges and pools are exposed.
Where do you park for Trevone Bay?
There is a village car park beside the beach stores and a larger field car park opposite the beach. Both are privately run and monitored.
Is it safe to swim at Trevone Bay today?
Check the Environment Agency Swimfo profile and Safer Seas & Rivers Service before swimming, and swim between the red and yellow flags when lifeguards are on duty.
Is Trevone Bay pram or buggy friendly?
Partly. The field car park opposite the beach and the village car park are both close by, but this is a small cove with rock ledges, so I would check the route down on the day. The coast path to the Round Hole is uneven and not one for a buggy.
What facilities are available at Trevone Bay?
Trevone Bay has public toilets, including an accessible toilet, near the car park, plus a beachfront café and shop. RNLI lifeguards patrol daily through the main summer season.
